How to install QReplace

Before installing QReplace please read and agree to the Licence / Disclaimer / Warranty at the foot of this document and in the installer program.

You need Microsoft .Net Framework v2.0 (a free Microsoft download) or higher installed on your computer to use QReplace.

Run the setup.exe file and follow the installation wizard. By default QReplace will be installed to C:\Program Files\QReplace.

How to use QReplace

QReplace is a small tool for finding and replacing items of text in files without needing literally open each file in turn (QReplace is short for 'Quick Replace'). It's particularly useful if you want to make the same amendment to several files without having to go into each one and manually carry out the find and replace in the text.

Enter the text to find and text to replace it with and browse to the text files you want to search (you can do a 'Select all' if you want to change everything in the folder).

QReplace will hunt down all instances of your find text and automatically replace them. Therefore make sure all instances actually need to be changed.

You also may want to backup your original files first, particularly until you get used to the QReplace functionality.

QReplace is case sensitive so if you enter 'Dog' in the Find box it won't detect instances of 'dog'.

QReplace also detects a blank space as a character. For example if you enter '14/03/2008' as the Find text and simply press the space bar once for the Replace text, all instances of '14/03/2008' will be replaced with a blank space.

There are brief step-through instructions inside the program by going to Help then 'Help/About' on the menu.

Possible future improvements

- Optional preview of the file contents before carrying out the Find/Replace.
- Ability to select the blocks of text to be replaced (rather than all instances within a text file).
- An option to create a backup of the original file.
- An option to output to a different filename.

- QReplace is Freeware: you can freely distribute the QReplace package whole, providing the setup.exe and this README.TXT file remain complete and intact. No charge whatsoever can be made for using this program without prior consent (see contact info).
